Local Information About the Cooloola Region

The Cooloola Shire lies less than 2 hours drive from Brisbane, nestled between Noosa and the Sunshine coast to the south, Hervey bay and Maryborough to the north, Fraser island to the east and the wine country of the South Burnett to the west.
Its location makes it a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas.

Cooloola Connections provide transfers to the historic main town of Gympie and the nearby small town ships of the scenic Mary Valley which include Dagun, Imbil, Kandanga and Amamoor.
Amamoor is home to the famous National Country Music Muster which attracts over 60,000 people each August.

Imbil state forest is the venue for round 1 of the Australian Rally Championship, one of the most watched and challenging courses on the six event calendar.
The Mary Valley Heritage Steam Train – The Mary Valley Rattler winds its way through scenic country side and back each Wednesday and Sunday.
The small beachside communities of Tin Can Bay, Cooloola Cove and Rainbow Beach are within an hour’s drive of Gympie.
Tin Can Bay is one of the few places where you can hand feed wild dolphins.

Beautiful Rainbow Beach is the gateway to world heritage listed Fraser Island, which is just a 15 minute barge trip away.
Away from the towns, Cooloola offers some great opportunities to explore the national parks and state forests which surround it. |
